Witnessing Whiteness: The Need to Talk About Race and How to Do It
– by Shelly Tochluk
When Baltimore went through the Freddie Gray experience we became engaged in a purposeful consideration of race. As part of my work as the chair of a commission of the presbytery I started to learn more about the issue of race and how that issue is shaping our current culture.
This book invites people who are white, such as myself, to step into the difficult areas of acknowledging what it means to be white in our culture. White privileged Americans need to take on the issue and face our role in both fostering racism. As white Americans we are called to live into accountable and antiracist relationships.
