The Starfish and The Spider: The Unstoppable Power of Leaderless Organizations
– by Ori Brafman and Rod A. Beckstrom
A premise of this book is that the advent of the internet has unleashed the power of decentralization. This ushers in a world of peer to peer relationship where power is shared. The spider cannot survive without its leg. A starfish can regenerate a lost leg.
This idea forms the five legs of a decentralized organization. Those legs include: circles, the catalyst, ideology (the glue that holds a decentralized organization together), preexisting network, and the champion.
A gem of this book: It is better to “be vaguely right than precisely wrong.”
