The Shaping of Things To Come: Innovation and Mission for the 21st-Century Church
– by Michael Frost & Alan Hirsch
This book forms the core of understandings of being missional in the new world of the church in postmodernism. In it the call for the Church is to be incarnational, messianic, and apostolic. This is in contrast to the church being attractional. The attractional model no longer functions. To be missional is to be engaging and to have a spirituality of engagement. The church is less trying to attract people and more trying to engage them. Such engagement grows relationship and deepens spiritual practices as the essence of faith.
