This was the first book I read as I begin a serious study of the issue of race. Foundational for me was that we do no service to anyone when we are attempting to be “nice” and polite about the issue of race. The result is that we really end up ignoring the issue and working around it. This book is a challenge to break the habits and rules we have learned about such social niceties and take on the issue of race. It is an invitation to have meaningful talk about race.
