Governance and Ministry: Rethinking Board Leadership
– by Dan Hotchkiss
This book has a few sections that I find particularly useful as we consider the church and what it means to govern. I found the discussions on policy interesting but the practical application moreso. He says, in essence, that when we set policy is the date that the policy becomes effective but when we live out that policy is the moment when the policy is practically effective. While this seems common sense, there is that lapse of time in there between setting policy and actually living it out that requires leadership on behalf of the board (pastor, session, deacons, etc.).
