Christianity for the Rest of Us
– by Diana Butler Bass
I have always found Diana Butler Bass’ approach to successful congregations a foundational understanding for how we in the mainline experience both decline and success. While in decline, that does not alway mean that we are unsuccessful. To the extent that we understand what we do in terms of our success rather than simply counting numbers, we shift our understanding of the church. I consider it an intersection of appreciative inquiry for the church with the vitality of congregations who live their lives in the community.
