Friedman’s book, “Generation to Generation” has been a foundational work in my understanding of congregations as systems and necessary tools required to be an effective leader in congregations. To be a non-anxious presence is an essential ingredient in who I am as a leader. I have worked in troubled situations by being such a presence who can speak the truth in love and listen for the voices of those in conflict.

This book takes that foundational work and applies it to the topic of leadership and leadership in the church. In leading there comes moments to decide how one will handle the complexity of situation and circumstance. This book speaks to that moment.
