Mobilizing Congregations: How Teams Can Motivate Members and Get Things Done
– by John W. Wimberly Jr.
I’m always a fan of books that call us to use teams to do the work of the church. Empowering teams has been around for some time now and was one of the great shifts I made in understanding the work of the session. The session has the power to bless a team to do work rather than wait on it for proposals and then be the body that says yes and no. Team work is effective in the church. This book reinforces that. A good couple of pages in the book is about situations where there is an absence of trust and how that becomes an impediment to team functioning. Dealing with trust issues in congregations is essential work.
